We are seeking an experienced Ambulatory Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our Plastic Surgery Clinic team at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. As an LVN, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and education, ensuring a seamless experience for our patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Administer personal and therapeutic measures to patients as directed by physicians and/or nurses.
- Schedule patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via our online computer system or telephone, and reinforce physician instructions in person and through telephone contact.
- Obtain medical history from patients through structured interviews in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Assist in care of patients by preparing exam rooms for patient care, facilitating use of diagnostic equipment, and ensuring availability of needed patient information, such as reports of diagnostic exams and medical records.
- Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the physician.
- Collect information and data that can assist the physician or Registered Nurse in triaging patient phone calls following departmental protocols and document actions in patients' electronic medical records.
- Take, record, and report patient vital signs using medical equipment; perform procedures of low complexity such as serial specimen samples, drawing blood from heparin lock, venipuncture, and specimen collection and handling.
- Document patient care interventions and education in medical records; ensure appropriate patient consent forms and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.
- Inspect equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning.
- Maintain adequate stock of supplies on carts and in patient exam rooms as required.
- Order supplies and supplemental nursing material.
- Maintain current customer service, clinical, and technical skills by attending training programs and seminars to continue level of competency and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in meetings related to clinical activities.
- Complete all necessary clinical documentation in a timely fashion.
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program from an approved school of nursing, licensure as LVN by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
- One (1) year experience in a clinical setting preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through a course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required.
