GENERAL OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role of the Monitor is essential in supporting the District by performing routine, non-instructional tasks, which include, but are not limited to, supervising students within the school environment, on school grounds, and during school-related events.


WORK SCHEDULE:
Approximately 4 Hours M-F as Bus Monitor Approximately 2.25 Hours M-F as Cafe Monitor

Building Administrator, District Administrator, or Department Supervisor/Director

Objective:

The Monitor is primarily responsible for executing routine non-instructional duties, which encompass student supervision in educational settings, on school property, in school vehicles, and during school-related activities.

Additionally, the Monitor serves as the welcoming presence of the building/department, ensuring that all visitors receive a friendly and inviting reception.

This job description aligns with the standards set forth by the Wayne County Civil Service.

Key Responsibilities:

The Monitor will ensure that the daily operations of the building/department are effectively managed by:


1. Assisting educators in supervising students during various activities, including recreation, lunch, study periods, field trips, and before and after school hours.

2. Guiding students safely across streets and intersections.

3. Maintaining order in areas such as gymnasiums, locker rooms, swimming pools, and hallways.

4. Upholding classroom routines.

5. Ensuring safety protocols are followed in and around school transportation and district facilities.

6. Overseeing student transitions between classes, in locker rooms, and on premises before and after school.

7. Distributing athletic supplies and equipment.

8. Assisting younger students with their clothing and cafeteria needs, such as opening milk cartons and carrying trays.

9. Performing clerical tasks under close supervision.

10. Providing basic first aid when necessary.

The Monitor will guarantee that all parents, students, community members, employees, and visitors to the Palmyra-Macedon CSD experience the Pal-Mac Way by:

1. Greeting everyone with a friendly and helpful demeanor.


2. Demonstrating a customer service mindset in all interactions, whether in person, on the phone, or through written and electronic communication.

3. Being attentive to the needs of individuals seeking assistance.

4. Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.

5. Utilizing skills to de-escalate situations when individuals are in heightened emotional states.

The Monitor will undertake additional duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the Building Administrator or Department Supervisor/Director.

Qualifications:

The Monitor should possess the following minimum qualities, qualifications, skills, and/or abilities:


1. Physical condition suitable for the demands of the position.

2. Fingerprint clearance through New York State Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability.

3. An open, collaborative approach that promotes teamwork and a shared purpose.

4. Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities, complemented by a sense of humor. The ideal candidate will be positive, approachable, and respectful towards others.

5. A commitment to being an active, engaged, and visible member of the Pal-Mac community.

6. Proficiency in oral and written communication, including electronic correspondence.


7. A customer service approach in all interactions, whether in person, on the phone, or through written and electronic communication.

8. Ability to collaborate effectively with staff members, administrators, students, and parents.

9. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

10. A willingness to listen first.

Evaluation:

The Monitor will report to the Building Administrator or Department Supervisor/Director and will be evaluated according to the District-approved criteria.


Job Qualifications:

The Palmyra-Macedon Central School District seeks Monitors dedicated to providing students with a high-quality, relevant educational experience.

Qualified candidates must have and be able to:
1. High School diploma or equivalent

2. Work collaboratively as part of a team

3. Follow both written and verbal instructions

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Good general intelligence; ability to establish positive relationships with children and others; familiarity with classroom routines; a solid background or knowledge in specific areas where specialized duties are required; above-average clerical aptitude; resourcefulness in conducting activities indirectly related to the teaching process; ability to maintain discipline; tact; courtesy; good judgment; physical condition suitable for the demands of the position.


ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Graduation from high school supplemented by additional experience and knowledge in a specific field where specialized duties are involved; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
