Job Overview

TITLE:
Student Supervision Specialist

REPORTS TO:
Building Administrator, District Administrator, or Department Supervisor/Director

Purpose:

The primary responsibility of the Student Supervision Specialist is to provide essential non-instructional support, ensuring student safety and supervision within the school environment, on school property, and during school-related activities.

This role also serves as the welcoming presence within the building/department, ensuring that all visitors receive a friendly and warm greeting.

This Result-Oriented Job Description aligns with the guidelines established by the Wayne County Civil Service.

Expected Results:

The Student Supervision Specialist will ensure the daily operations of the building/department are effectively managed by:

  • Assisting educators in supervising students during recreation, lunch, study periods, field trips, and before and after school.
  • Guiding students safely across streets and intersections.
  • Maintaining order in various areas such as gymnasiums, locker rooms, swimming pools, and hallways.
  • Ensuring classroom routines are upheld.
  • Promoting safety practices in and around school transportation and district facilities.
  • Overseeing student transitions between classes and during periods before and after school.
  • Issuing athletic supplies and equipment.
  • Assisting younger students with their clothing and cafeteria needs.
  • Performing clerical tasks under close supervision.
  • Providing basic first aid when necessary.

The Student Supervision Specialist will ensure that all parents, students, community members, employees, and visitors to the Palmyra-Macedon CSD experience the Pal-Mac Way by:

  • Greeting all individuals with a friendly and helpful demeanor.
  • Exhibiting a customer service-oriented approach in all interactions, whether in person, over the phone, or through written communication.
  • Being attentive to the needs of those seeking assistance.
  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Utilizing skills to de-escalate situations when necessary.

The Student Supervision Specialist will undertake additional duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the Building Administrator or Department Supervisor/Director.

Qualified candidates must possess:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • The capacity to follow both written and verbal instructions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Good general intelligence; ability to establish positive relationships with children and others; familiarity with classroom routines; a solid background or knowledge in specific areas where specialized duties are involved; above-average clerical aptitude; resourcefulness in conducting activities indirectly related to the teaching process; ability to maintain discipline; tact; courtesy; good judgment; and physical condition appropriate for the demands of the position.


ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Graduation from high school supplemented by additional experience and knowledge in a specific field where specialized duties are involved; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
