POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities that align with the mission, standards, and values of the YMCA of the East Bay. The main focus is to ensure cleanliness and safety across various areas of the facility, including locker rooms, exercise areas, and living spaces.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to inquiries and requests from members and guests in a courteous and friendly manner, or refer them to another staff member as needed.
  • Manage the collection, washing, folding, and distribution of towels to specified locations.
  • Perform cleaning tasks to maintain the orderliness of locker rooms, which includes collecting used towels and disposing of waste.
  • Assist in the upkeep of assigned areas, which involves sweeping, mopping, dusting, waste removal, and specific maintenance of fitness or living environments.
  • Remain alert to the surroundings to identify and address any suspicious or inappropriate behavior, safety issues, and emergency situations.
  • Engage in required branch and on-the-job training sessions.
  • Provide support to colleagues as necessary, particularly during emergencies and community events.
  • Complete additional duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have the physical capability to perform essential duties, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to carry out essential maintenance tasks within the facility, which may involve reaching, crouching, kneeling, working in confined spaces, and handling cleaning agents.
  • Must be able to stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods.
  • Skill in safely using cleaning products during laundry processes.
  • Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with diverse groups from various social and economic backgrounds.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

COMPENSATION: Starting pay is $18.24 per hour, with an annual $750 Holiday Bonus for Full-Time Employees.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES:

Initial Rate: $18.24 per hour

After 600 Hours: $18.74 per hour

After 1400 Hours: $19.24 per hour

After 2100 Hours: $22.65 per hour
