This role is pivotal in shaping product and market strategies for both new and existing offerings, particularly focusing on Unum's pet insurance and the launch of pet insurance for Colonial Life.
As a leader, you will gather, analyze, and effectively communicate vital market insights to both internal and external stakeholders, taking ownership of the product development strategy for designated business lines.
Your responsibilities will include defining and supporting both short-term and long-term market and product strategies, ensuring they align with measurable financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the implementation of technological solutions within the product portfolio.
- Play a significant role in establishing strategic direction and portfolio outlook (3-5 years), ensuring the organization meets its growth, profitability, and return on equity goals.
- Lead the design and development of new or enhanced market offerings, ensuring they meet identified market needs and enhance the client and distribution experience.
- Accountable for defining value propositions and ensuring realization of value when solutions are launched.
- Collaborate with product and implementation teams to ensure timely and effective execution of product initiatives.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Contribute to product management strategies by partnering with various departments to provide comprehensive qualitative and quantitative analyses of product components.
- Maintain proactive communication with vendors, brokers, field personnel, and customers regarding competitive information and product training.
- Assess economic and distribution trends to identify product opportunities and inform platform strategy.
- Direct marketing strategies for products targeting specific market segments, in alignment with corporate value propositions.
- Define competitive landscape and incorporate trend assessments into product recommendations.
- Oversee execution of product development projects, managing complex initiatives with significant corporate impact.
- Understand distribution trends and recommend effective strategies for product distribution.
- Develop and mentor team members, fostering a high-performance culture.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant experience, ideally within the financial services sector, encompassing sales, marketing, risk management, and product development.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with a focus on collaboration, problem-solving, and influence across all organizational levels.
- Strong understanding of insurance market principles and practices.
- Ability to manage product lines while balancing short-term profitability with long-term growth.
- Proficient in making strategic decisions while considering marketability and implementability.
- Capable of building strong relationships and credibility with diverse stakeholders.
- Combination of analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, adaptable to various audiences.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to execute tactical plans effectively.
- Focused on delivering timely results and executing initiatives for balanced financial outcomes.
