Role Summary

Within the framework of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), the individual in this role spearheads efforts related to the examination, assessment, and evaluation of data to support OIG auditors and investigators in their audits, investigations, evaluations, and various reviews. Utilizing advanced analytical software, the individual will autonomously analyze government databases and publicly available information, contributing to the OIG's mission of enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness while identifying anomalies, suspicious connections, trends, and patterns that may indicate fraud, waste, or misuse within the Federal Reserve Board or Consumer Financial Protection Bureau programs and activities. The insights gathered and reports produced may be instrumental in legal proceedings, civil or administrative actions, or in the development of audit findings. Proficiency in research, analytical skills, verbal and written communication, planning, and coordination of tasks is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster productive relationships with federal agencies and industry experts.
  • Assist in the investigation of individuals or organizations suspected of engaging in fraudulent activities by employing various analytical tools such as ACL, IDEA, Monarch, and I2 Analyst Notebook. The forensic auditor will provide expert insights to special agents and prosecutors regarding financial conditions and other relevant aspects of cases.
  • Engage in project planning discussions to assess the scope and nature of data analysis required for specific engagements.
  • Apply professional accounting principles and methodologies to support audits, investigations, evaluations, and other reviews involving complex issues.
  • Identify necessary information for review and devise strategies for obtaining it; enhance methods to ensure comprehensive and precise data analysis. Evaluate and interpret materials from both internal and external sources.
  • Create applications and automated queries to scrutinize and assess data for patterns, trends, recurring issues, control weaknesses, and anomalies in support of audits, evaluations, investigations, and other reviews.
  • Innovate additional analytical techniques and models. Recommend enhancements to analytical capabilities, including software, hardware, and data sets.
  • Conduct specialized studies, analyze data trends, and propose strategies and actions to achieve program objectives.
  • Prepare timely, well-structured, and comprehensive workpapers that support the data analysis conducted.
  • Draft sections of review reports that pertain to the data analysis performed.
  • Deliver briefings to present analytical findings and articulate conclusions clearly and concisely in diverse settings.
  • Collaborate with special agents to formulate plans for executing complex and sensitive investigations of alleged or suspected violations of criminal laws, focusing on white-collar crimes involving fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Design strategies for utilizing data analytics in intricate and sensitive investigations of suspected criminal law violations, emphasizing white-collar crime related to fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • For moderately complex projects, lead the development and maintenance of forensic auditing analysis within the context of audits, investigations, evaluations, and other reviews.

  • Familiarity with tools and techniques to promote a culture of data literacy within an organization is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, large language models, and natural language processing, and their relevance to data analytics is desirable.
  • Programming skills in Python, R, and SQL.
  • Experience with Oracle, Peoplesoft, and Salesforce management systems, as well as analytical software applications such as ACL, Tableau, and Altair Monarch, is highly advantageous.
  • The OIG's telework policy mandates employees to be physically present in the office a minimum of 4 days per month, with potential for more based on business needs.
