POSITION SUMMARY:

The College Guidance Counselor plays a pivotal role in fostering student success by providing essential leadership and support to both staff and students. This position is responsible for the development and execution of comprehensive college and career assessment initiatives, offering a diverse range of career resources and information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design and implementation of integrated programs for middle and high school students, aimed at empowering them to make informed decisions regarding their educational and career paths.
  • Engage collaboratively with students, educators, parents, and community stakeholders to facilitate effective career planning and college admissions processes.
  • Assist students in crafting resumes, cover letters, and college application essays, while also providing guidance on scholarships and financial aid opportunities.
  • Organize and coordinate college visits and events to enhance student exposure to higher education options.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain communication with parents and faculty to address any concerns promptly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, coupled with a minimum of two years of relevant experience, is required. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred, along with experience in college support programs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • In-depth knowledge of college and career readiness standards.
  • Proficient in curriculum design and evaluation.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to analyze data to support student learning and development.
  • Capable of fostering collaborative relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Engagement in ongoing professional growth activities is essential to enhance job-related skills aligned with district objectives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role involves working in a typical office environment, with occasional requirements for travel and participation in events outside standard hours.
