BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Provide necessary leadership for staff and campuses to ensure overall success of programs assigned. Contribute to the development and implementation of the campus college and career assessment program and provide a wide variety of career information and materials; communicate with students, faculty, parents, and community representatives concerning career planning and college entrance. Design and implement seamless middle and high school programs whose focus is to provide identified students with the ability and opportunity to make wise decisions about their future so they may access educational career opportunities to become productive citizens.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual (English & Spanish) and experience in college support programs.

Instructional Management
  • Support the implementation, monitoring and/or evaluation of assigned programs for elementary and secondary education, curriculum, and/or instructional support, and ensure that assigned programs are efficiently and effectively administered.
  • Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plans.
Student Management
  • Initiate opportunities to work directly with students on the development of resumes, cover letters, college entrance essays, scholarships and financial aid.
  • Assist the counselor in organizing the celebration of student acceptance into universities, academic awards, and senior scholarship night.
  • Engage students and college partners in promoting opportunities using social media and BISD based marketing strategies.
  • Assist in the organization of college visits.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Report student progress according to campus and District guidelines in a timely manner.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Resolve parent/student issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Be a positive role model for students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:
  • Provide career and college entrance information and assistance to students, teachers, parents and counselors; coordinate day-to-day operations and schedule activities, programs and speakers.
  • Prepare career education and instructional materials for use by teachers and students; assist students in locating and using college/career information as needed for research, assignments and post-high school planning.
  • Obtain, organize, file and display guidance materials; catalog and prepare for use by students; maintain displays and bulletin boards.
  • Provide information concerning scholastic aptitude and achievement tests; assist students with applications and scheduling; distribute test results as appropriate.
  • Attend meetings, conferences and seminars regarding career trends, college entrance and financial aid.
  • Train and provide work direction to volunteers and student assistants.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including audio/visual equipment.
  • Develop and coordinate the campus college and career assessment program.
  • Coordinate meetings with the campus leadership and staff regarding the college and career assessment program.
  • Provide leadership in the coordination of special events and programs related to assessment.
  • Prepare and complete pertinent communications in a variety of formats to disseminate the campus college and career assessment plan and ensure performance indicators are met for the campus.
  • Coordinate departmental activities with other District offices and administrators and provide assistance to requesting departments.
  • Follow District and department policies and procedures.
Organization Improvement:
  • Support the mission and vision of the campus and District.
  • Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to implement and improve programs.
Professional Growth and Development:
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job-related skills that are aligned with campus and District needs.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees, as required.
Texas Academic Performance Indicators and Campus Performance Objectives:
  • Analyze data to determine and address individual student needs.
  • Administer state-mandated testing at campuses in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Monitor and review campus test data and use findings to assist with planning corrective action for the affected group of students and/or campuses.
School/Community Relations:
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District's initiatives.
Organization Morale:
  • Foster positive morale by participating in team building activities and the decision-making process.
  • Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
