Job Summary

The VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION is seeking a skilled Electronics Mechanic to join our team. As an Electronics Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing complex communication equipment, troubleshooting electronic and electromechanical circuits, and using computer diagnostic equipment to analyze and restore faulty voice and non-voice circuits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair complex communication equipment, including telecommunication systems, public address systems, and interface/ancillary equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electronic and electromechanical circuits, and use computer diagnostic equipment to analyze and restore faulty voice and non-voice circuits.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair complex equipment, including wireless transmission and receiving equipment, and program electronic alarm systems with desired features.
  • Interconnect system components by applying a thorough knowledge of different electronic and solid-state voice and data systems, including their capabilities, functions of their major circuits, and associated cables and wiring.
  • Review work orders and layout sheets to select equipment, components, and layouts required, and determine components causing malfunctions or invalid readings.
Requirements
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, including electronics and solid-state voice and data systems.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair, including theory of electronics and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical information from manufacturers' specifications, schematics, block diagrams, and technical orders.
  • Ability to determine operation of circuits, locate points for taking readings, and analyze schematic layouts.
  • Ability to make required repairs by replacing damaged, missing, burnt, or faulty items, using the latest techniques in micro-soldering.
Working Conditions

The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components.
