Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pathologist Assistant II to join our team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate accession records, assisting pathologists and residents with specimen processing and description, and performing computer data entry and verification procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accession records in accordance with established procedures
  • Accession, label, fix, and direct specimens received in the gross room with precision and attention to detail
  • Determine the necessary actions to ensure accuracy in the processing of surgical pathology specimens
  • Perform grossing with clear, concise, and complete descriptions and dissections
  • Enhance efficiency, production, and output through effective task prioritization
  • Evaluate specimen condition while maintaining specimen integrity
  • Coordinate accession activities with clerical staff and other professional staff
  • Perform quality audits as required and ensure proper supplies are available
  • Maintain a clean, sterile working area and perform PM according to manufacturer's recommendations and department policy
Requirements
  • Pathologist Assistant Certification by a minimum standards exam, such as the Board of Certification (ASCP) or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience as a Pathology Assistant or equivalent
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in biological, chemical sciences, or health science related field
  • Master of Arts or Science (preferred)
