Pathologist Assistant II

The Department of Anatomic Pathology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a highly skilled Pathologist Assistant II to join their team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accession records, assisting pathologists and residents in processing and describing gross anatomic findings, and performing computer data entry and verification procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining accession records according to established procedures
- Correctly accessing, labeling, fixing, and directing specimens received in the gross room
- Determining when and what action is required to ensure accuracy in the processing of surgical pathology specimens
- Performing grossing with description and dissection that is clear, concise, and complete
- Enhancing efficiency, production, and output with appropriate task prioritization
- Ensuring specimen receipt with identification verification procedures
- Evaluating specimen condition while maintaining specimen integrity
- Coordinating accession activities with the clerical staff along with other professional staff
- Performing quality audits as required
- Ensuring that proper supplies are available and maintaining a clean, sterile working area
- Maintaining instruments at top performance
- Performing PM according to manufacturer's recommendation and department policy
- Working well with supervisors and those in authority
- Establishing a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the laboratory
- Maintaining a positive rapport with medical staff and hospital personnel
- Communicating in a highly professional manner at all times
- Complying with Hospital and Laboratory Safety Requirements
- Reporting hazards to the Safety Office or Supervisor when found
- Completing mandatory in-services on or before the due date
- Responsible for maintaining adequate staffing on all three shifts, weekends, and holidays
Candidates must have a Bachelor of Arts or Science in biological, chemical sciences, or health science-related field and be certified as a Pathologist Assistant by a minimum standards exam, such as the Board of Certification (ASCP) or equivalent, or have 5 years of experience as a Pathology Assistant.
