About the Role

Penn Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Pathologist Assistant II to join our team in the Department of Anatomic Pathology. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining accession records, assisting pathologists and residents in processing and describing gross anatomic findings, and performing computer data entry and verification procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accession records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Accurately accession, label, fix, and direct specimens received in the gross room.
  • Determine the necessary actions to ensure accuracy in the processing of surgical pathology specimens.
  • Perform grossing with description and dissection that is clear, concise, and complete.
  • Enhance efficiency, production, and output by prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Ensure specimen receipt with identification verification procedures.
  • Evaluate specimen condition while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Coordinate accession activities with clerical staff and other professional staff.
  • Perform quality audits as required.
  • Ensure proper supplies are available and maintain a clean, sterile working area.

Requirements

  • Pathologist Assistant certification by a minimum standards exam, such as the Board of Certification (ASCP) or equivalent, or 5 years of experience as a Pathology Assistant.
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in biological, chemical sciences, or health science-related field.
  • Master of Arts or Science (preferred).
