Job Summary

The Deputy Chief Operating Officer will play a key role in enhancing operational effectiveness across the organization, working closely with the Chief Operating Officer to design, implement, and oversee a fiscally sustainable strategy for the organization's future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an operating model that aligns organizational strategy with day-to-day operations, focusing on Finance and Human Resources, and emphasizing process efficiency and internal customer service.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure that annual budgeting and forecasting align with the organization's strategic goals, with particular attention to headcount costs and funding sources.
  • Provide strategic guidance to the Chief Operating Officer on adopting a "people first" approach to human resources management, including talent acquisition, talent management, performance metrics, training, compensation best practices, and organizational culture.
  • Develop performance indicators for the organization's strategic plan to establish benchmarked metrics, ensuring consistent progress reporting to the leadership team.
  • Work proactively across all teams to ensure that individual initiatives align with the broader strategic plan, identifying gaps in alignment and opportunities for improvement.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Academic training in non-profit management, finance, human resources, or a related field is desirable.
  • Seven to nine years of experience in operational leadership roles, preferably in a non-profit or think tank setting. Direct experience managing Finance and/or Human Resources functions is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic project management and leading organizational change.
  • Strong organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills are required.
