Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to lead our research program and drive innovation in soybean and small grain research. This role involves:

  • Developing and implementing research plans to advance agricultural practices and support the farming community.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to disseminate research findings and promote the accomplishments of scholars and research initiatives.
  • Providing technical expertise and guidance to graduate students, undergraduate students, and other researchers.
  • Managing and analyzing data to inform research decisions and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Designing and fabricating field research equipment and preparing educational materials for growers and agricultural professionals.
Responsibilities
  • Plans and directs the day-to-day operational activities of one or multiple research programs or units according to established research objectives in alignment with strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Assists in the development, coordination, and facilitation of trainings and workshops for internal and external audiences to disseminate research program developments and information.
  • Plans, develops, and implements processes and protocols to support research aims.
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
  • Serves as a unit liaison and subject matter expert among internal and external stakeholder groups, collaborates across disciplines and functional areas, provides program information, and promotes the accomplishments and developments of scholars and research initiatives.
  • Monitors program budget(s) and approves unit expenditures.
  • Drone pilot.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in agronomy, horticulture, soil science, or other related agronomic field of study.
  • Experience applying pesticides, fertilizers, and other crop production inputs for field research and in coordination with grower recommendations.
  • FAA certified UAS Part 107 Remote Pilot - Drones (preferred that this certification is in place at the start of employment; if not certified on day 1 of employment, then required to become fully certified as of the earliest possible testing interval following the start of employment).
  • Experience taking data from multiple sources and formats and creating online maps/graphics/data sets within various programs for use by researchers/vendors.
  • Demonstrated software and cloud-based platform proficiency in Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS SharePoint, SAS, ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online, photogrammetry, Pix4Dfields, John Deere Operations Center, DroneLogBook, and statistical analysis software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, diverse team.
  • Experience working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating and cultivating relationships with internal and external partners.
  • WI Commercial Driver's License. Class A B C D
  • WDATCP Commercial Pesticide Applicators (1.1) and Aerial Applicators (9.9) license
  • Airman Medical Certification- Third class medical certificate
