PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the creation and review of 2D and 3D drawings for Fire Alarm and Systems installations, ensuring seamless coordination with other subcontractor trades.
  • Engage in coordination meetings to address and resolve conflicts while adhering to budget constraints, constructability, and NEC code standards.
  • Generate shop drawings, including cross-sections for underground conduits and cables, as well as other electrical systems necessary for the fabrication and installation teams.
  • Draft documentation to seek clarifications on original designs through RFIs and track follow-up responses.
  • Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans, sections, and elevations.
  • Collaborate with the engineer of record and project management to troubleshoot issues, clarify drawings for production or construction teams, and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Travel to various project locations as needed.
  • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate for the Fire Alarm/Systems BIM/VDC Coordinator position will possess either a Journeyman Electrician certification with Fire Alarm experience or have a proven track record as an Assistant BIM/VDC Detailer, BIM/VDC Detailer, or related experience in engineering, technical design, or construction management. Specific educational and experiential requirements include:

  • If a Journeyman Electrician, the following are mandatory:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Proof of Journeyman's license.
  • A minimum of 2 years of drafting experience, with at least 3 years in the field.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction blueprints, specifications, and Requests for Information across various disciplines (architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and special systems).
  • Proficiency in 3D coordination with other trades.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., folder structure, emails & attachments, keyboard shortcuts).
  • Solid working knowledge of Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Familiarity with BIM 360 Glue, BIM Collaborate, or similar model viewing/collaboration software is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

For candidates with experience as a BIM/VDC Assistant Coordinator, Assistant BIM/VDC Detailer, BIM/VDC Detailer, or related engineering, technical design, or construction management experience, the following are required unless otherwise noted as preferred:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a BIM/VDC Assistant Coordinator; or 5 years' experience as an Assistant BIM/VDC Detailer, BIM/VDC Detailer, or related experience in engineering, technical design, or construction management using Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, BIM 360 Glue, BIM Collaborate, or other model viewing/collaboration software is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of construction blueprints, specifications, and Requests for Information across various disciplines.
  • Knowledge of 3D coordination with other trades.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., folder structure, emails & attachments, keyboard shortcuts).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands of this position must be met by the employee to successfully perform essential functions. While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, frequently stand, and walk. The employee must use hands for various tasks and communicate verbally.

Specific vision abilities required include the ability to view computer monitors. Some duties may be performed under disagreeable working conditions typical of a job site, including exposure to inclement weather, dust, dirt, grease, paint fumes, chemicals, and equipment noise. Most work is conducted in an office environment during standard business hours.
