KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct the review and creation of both 2D and 3D drawings for Fire Alarm and Systems, ensuring effective coordination with various subcontractor teams.
  • Engage in collaborative meetings to address and resolve conflicts while adhering to budget constraints, constructability, and NEC code standards.
  • Generate detailed shop drawings, including cross-sections for underground conduits and cables, along with other electrical systems as necessary for guidance to fabrication and installation teams.
  • Prepare documentation to seek clarifications on original designs through RFIs and manage follow-up responses.
  • Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans, sections, and elevations.
  • Collaborate with the engineer of record and project management to troubleshoot issues, clarify drawings for production or construction teams, and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Travel to various project locations as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate for the FIRE ALARM/SYSTEMS BIM/VDC Coordinator position will either possess a Journeyman Electrician certification with Fire Alarm experience or have a proven track record as an Assistant BIM/VDC Detailer, BIM/VDC Detailer, or related experience in engineering, technical design, or construction management. Specific educational and experiential requirements include:

  • If a Journeyman Electrician, the following are mandatory:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Proof of Journeyman's license.
  • A minimum of 2 years of drafting experience, with at least 3 years in related fields.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction blueprints, specifications, and Requests for Information across various disciplines (architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and special systems).
  • Proficiency in 3D coordination with other trades.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., folder structure, emails & attachments, keyboard shortcuts).
  • Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Familiarity with BIM 360 Glue, BIM Collaborate, or similar model viewing/collaboration software is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

For those with experience as a BIM/VDC Assistant Coordinator, Assistant BIM/VDC Detailer, BIM/VDC Detailer, or related engineering, technical design, or construction management experience, the following are required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years as a BIM/VDC Assistant Coordinator or 5 years as an Assistant BIM/VDC Detailer or related experience using Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, BIM 360 Glue, BIM Collaborate, or other model viewing/collaboration software is preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction blueprints, specifications, and Requests for Information across various disciplines.
  • Knowledge of 3D coordination with other trades.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., folder structure, emails & attachments, keyboard shortcuts).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands of this position must be met by the employee to successfully perform essential functions. Regularly required to sit for extended periods, frequently stand and walk, and use hands for various tasks. Specific vision abilities include the ability to view computer monitors. Duties may involve working in varying conditions typical of a construction site, including exposure to inclement weather, dust, dirt, chemicals, and equipment noise.
