Job Overview

The position of Field Engineering Specialist – Solar Solutions is designed to provide expert engineering support in the solar inverter sector. This role is integral to the Energy & Infrastructure Solutions department, focusing on delivering high-quality technical services to clients and field engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical advisor for clients and internal engineers, addressing and resolving issues related to solar inverter systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools to assess and analyze equipment failures reported by clients.
  • Offer remote technical assistance to clients and engineering teams when not engaged in fieldwork.
  • Conduct commissioning, installation, quality assessments, and performance evaluations of photovoltaic inverter systems to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and rectify issues, including the repair or replacement of faulty components.
  • Communicate any hardware, software, or system design deficiencies to the manufacturing team, implementing corrective measures as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records in the client relationship management (CRM) system to facilitate timely reporting.
  • Prepare and distribute Service Advisories to clients and field engineers as required.
  • Draft and review field reports, providing them to clients upon request.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain relevant safety qualifications for assigned tasks.
  • Manage warranty claims and expedite processes when needed.
  • Be available for client support outside of regular business hours on a rotating basis.
  • Investigate proposed field modifications, report issues, and suggest solutions to the parent company as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in field engineering, customer support, or testing related to photovoltaic inverters.
  • Familiarity with power conversion and distribution transformers.
  • Proven ability to build successful relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Track record of continuous improvement in assigned responsibilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 75% of the time, often with little notice.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including extreme weather.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in controls engineering.
  • Background in low voltage drive engineering.
  • Experience with photovoltaic inverter power generation.
  • Familiarity with PPC and battery storage systems.
