We are seeking a highly skilled Public Information Officer to join our team at the City and County of San Francisco. This is a Temporary Provisional Permanent Civil Service position that offers a salary range of $111,072.00 - $145,392.00 per year.

About the Role

The Communications and Legislative Affairs (CLA) division of the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing is responsible for managing governmental affairs, communications, and community relations. As a Public Information Officer, you will work closely with the Communications Lead to develop and implement effective communication strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day media inquiries and draft strategic responses to ensure timely and accurate information dissemination.
  • Conduct rapid response communications and longer-term strategic communications related to HSH's projects, programs, and people.
  • Built relationships with key local media contacts to foster positive coverage of HSH initiatives.
  • Develop strategic media outreach lists for targeted communications to effectively reach diverse audiences.
  • Proactively oversee and maintain the HSH website with timely content updates to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Collaborate with the Mayor's office and community partners to develop press releases that highlight HSH's achievements.
  • Draft compelling media pitches that help change the narrative around homelessness in San Francisco.
  • Create engaging content and manage daily social media activities, including special campaigns to raise awareness about HSH's initiatives.
  • Develop and manage the success stories program to showcase HSH's impact on the community.
  • Draft content and oversee the development and distribution of the quarterly HSH staff newsletter to keep employees informed about departmental news and updates.
  • Prepare agendas and support the execution of monthly all-staff meetings to foster collaboration and communication among team members.
  • Develop and improve department-wide collateral, content, and talking points to ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
  • Manage timely nonprofit partner communications through the My Emma distribution platform to build strong relationships with community organizations.
  • Manage regular updates and distribution of public information cards to keep stakeholders informed about HSH's initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of verifiable full-time professional experience in public relations or related fields, including at least one year in planning and conducting a public relations, public information, or public education program.
