Public Information Officer: Communications and Public Affairs

We are seeking a skilled Public Information Officer to join our team at San Francisco Public Works. As a key member of the Communications and Public Affairs department, you will play a vital role in keeping the public informed about our services, projects, and programs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public affairs, communications, or a related field, with experience in creating and disseminating information to diverse audiences. Job ResponsibilitiesAs a Public Information Officer, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing effective communication strategies to inform the public about our projects and services
- Creating engaging content for various platforms, including social media, websites, and press releases
- Responding to inquiries from the public, elected officials, and other stakeholders
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals
You will also be responsible for participating in high-profile projects, such as the Islais Creek Bridge replacement project, which requires extensive outreach to the community and stakeholder groups.
RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you must have:
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- At least two years of professional experience in public affairs, communications, or a related field
- Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
Familiarity with public-right-of-way construction codes and best practices is desirable, as is experience in taking photos and videos and producing accompanying written content for social media and print platforms.
