Position Overview

The Pharmacist collaborates closely with the Director of Pharmacy, adhering to established protocols to compound and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receipt of written prescriptions from physicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engages in Performance Improvement initiatives within the healthcare facility.
  • Provides consultation and guidance to Administration, Medical Staff, and hospital personnel regarding quality, regulatory, and risk management issues.
  • Acts as a consultant to clinical and medical teams.
  • Assists the Director in coordinating and executing Pharmacy operations.
  • Interprets medication orders and compounds medications in compliance with legal, ethical, and professional pharmacy standards.
  • Supervises technical support staff and assists with clinical, quality management, and educational programs.
  • Offers support across all departments concerning patient care for individuals aged 18 and older, including the geriatric population.
  • Participates in the distribution of drug information through in-service education for hospital staff and consultations with patients.
  • Provides assistance to fellow Pharmacists and Technicians in their routine responsibilities as needed.
  • Directs and offers professional guidance to Pharmacy personnel.
  • Utilizes professional judgment to deliver therapeutic and drug information to patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrates competence in treating patients across the adult and geriatric age spectrum.
  • Capable of processing a minimum of 40 medication orders within a four-hour shift.
  • Generates necessary reports, including I.V. and production reports.
  • Implements backup procedures accurately.
  • Assists Technicians with technical tasks and maintains aseptic techniques.
  • Ensures proper recycling of products and checks technician-prepared products prior to release.
  • Monitors I.V. refrigerator temperatures and hood cleaning logs maintained by Technicians.
  • Accurately fills orders with the correct medications and verifies support staff accuracy before medication release.
  • Prioritizes work to address STAT, Now, and Waiting orders based on urgency.
  • Reviews patient profiles to confirm appropriate and safe drug therapy, preventing therapeutic duplication and significant drug interactions.
  • Ensures medication orders are suitable for patient height, weight, age, renal function, and medical conditions.
  • Oversees pharmacokinetics dosing services, ensuring priority dosing is appropriate and interpreting levels correctly.
  • Modifies doses as necessary and documents progress notes according to protocol.
  • Dates, times, and initials all vials for reuse and calculates fluid, electrolyte, and caloric needs.
  • Monitors patient suitability for formulations and clarifies any controversial orders with physicians.
  • Stays updated on new medications and ensures accurate labeling of containers, including auxiliary labels.
  • Completes packaging, including seals and protective wraps, while maintaining the security of the Pharmacy and controlled substances.
  • Informs staff of any pending issues and maintains communication regarding workload status.
  • Prepares unit-of-use dosages whenever feasible.
Job Requirements
  • Possession of a valid KY BOP license and CPh certification is required.
  • BLS certification must be attached to the submission, obtained through the American Heart Association; RQI certifications are not acceptable.
Schedule Information
  • Shifts will vary throughout the week, typically from 8 AM to 8 PM.
  • Requires availability for every third weekend after orientation.
