Job Title: Family Support Specialist

Cope Family Center is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Family Support Specialist to join our team. As a Family Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in implementing the Parents As Teachers (PAT) Evidence-Based model of early childhood home visiting with parents and caregivers of children ages 0-5 years old.

Job Summary:

The Family Support Specialist will initiate and maintain regular and long-term contact with families through home visits, family connection events, and other community-based settings. You will work collaboratively with families to establish a trusting relationship, strengthen the parent-child relationship, and improve the family's ability to problem-solve and advocate for themselves and their children.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with families to build rapport and invite them to enroll in the PAT Program.
  • Complete initial and annual family-centered assessments with each family.
  • Make regular contact with clients based on assessment of family stressors.
  • Identify client service needs and partner with the family to develop a mutually established Goal Plan.
  • Plan, provide, and document personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being.
  • Use the PAT Foundational Curricula to share research-based information with families.
  • Plan and provide group family connection events to give families an opportunity to build social connections.
  • Complete initial and annual developmental screening and health review for each enrolled child age 5 and under.
  • Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs and interests.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field.
  • Ability to reflect upon one's strengths and weaknesses and engage in ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Strong understanding of healthy child development, positive parenting strategies, and family dynamics.
  • Able to engage resistant clients and support parents under stress.
  • Knowledge of child abuse and neglect, and family violence dynamics.
  • Familiarity with child abuse and neglect reporting procedures.
