Job Summary

The Survey Party Chief will oversee the planning and execution of field survey projects, manage a team of surveyors, and prepare design calculations for construction staking survey work. This role requires strong leadership and technical skills to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and perform daily field surveying operations in various locations, including urban, rural, commercial, and industrial sites.
  • Accurately prepare and complete complex surveying calculations, daily field notes, sketches, time sheets, and other survey tasks.
  • Direct and complete field surveys for boundary determination, design plans, utility locating, hydrographic maps, right-of-way cross-sections, as-builts, and other survey exhibits.
  • Interpret and lay out construction staking from provided calculations, making field adjustments as required.
  • Evaluate engineering design plans for construction purposes and communicate with clients and management regarding any conflicts or complications.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust various survey equipment, including digital levels, total stations, laser scanners, and RTK GPS receivers.
  • Conduct county research of existing survey, deed, and improvement records to complete boundary retracements and monumentation surveys.
  • Organize and maintain field books, reports, maintenance data, survey equipment, and company vehicles.
  • Participate in the company safety culture and supervise safety procedures for crew members.
  • Train and assist other crew members on surveying procedures and technology.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and basic understanding of math and geometry.
  • Four or more years of experience leading a field survey crew.
  • Land-Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certification or equivalent is preferred.
  • Knowledge of land surveying principles, practices, regulations, and techniques.
  • Basic site planning, cartography, and architectural design principles.
  • Experience using personal computers for tasks like email, spreadsheets, and data downloads.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and time management skills.
