About the Role:


We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated K-5 School Counselor to join our team at Oakland Schools. As a key member of our student support services, you will play a vital role in providing guidance and support to students, families, and staff.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule Planning: Develop and implement scheduling processes that align with the district's vision, goals, and objectives.
  • Family and Mentor Support: Assist families and mentors in identifying learning styles and making informed decisions.
  • Student Registration: Register new and current students, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
  • SEL and CTE Education: Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement long-term social-emotional learning (SEL) and career and technical education (CTE) programs for online learners in grades K-5.
  • Daily Reports and Schedules: Prepare and distribute daily reports and class schedules for assigned students.
  • Counseling Procedures: Promote counseling practices that prioritize the social and emotional well-being of students through safe and open communication channels.
  • Student Management: Effectively manage students, accommodating various learning styles, ability levels, and educational/linguistic backgrounds.
  • State Testing Coordinator: Assist with state testing coordination, including the Oxford Virtual Academy Testing process.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with subject matter knowledge and learning theory through coursework, in-service programs, and professional development activities.
  • Parent and Student Communication: Engage parents and students in the learning process through regular and meaningful communication about student progress.
  • Building and District Activities: Participate in building and district-level activities, staff meetings, professional development sessions, program meetings, and educational planning meetings for assigned students, including 504s and IEPs.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and attendance in accordance with district policies and procedures.
  • Staff Relationships: Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff members.
  • Technology Integration: Employ technology to enhance instruction and support student learning.
  • Extension Learning Opportunities: Organize activities beyond the classroom to extend learning experiences for students.
  • Marketing and Recruitment: Assist with marketing efforts for the Oxford Virtual Academy, attending presentations and recruitment meetings via webinars or in-person meetings.
  • Policies and Procedures: Adhere to all school policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred
  • Valid Michigan Department of Education School Counseling Certification


Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, employee assistance program, and six weeks of paid parental leave. Additionally, we provide health savings accounts, flexible spending plans, and retirement plans through the Office of Retirement Services.
