Your Role:

As the Safety Management Systems (SMS) Program Leader, you will guide a talented team of technicians and specialists, managing maintenance personnel and overseeing task or inspection management for assigned mechanics while ensuring the functionality of our cutting-edge equipment. Your leadership and technical acumen will be vital in upholding the efficiency and reliability of our clients' aircraft while adhering to all FAA regulations and policies.

  • Develop, implement, and sustain an SMS program recognized by the FAA.
  • Establish an FAA Voluntary SMS Program accepted by the FAA.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the FAA concerning SMS issues.
  • Conduct a comprehensive gap analysis of SMS guidelines in line with 14 CFR Part 5 and current company policies.
  • Formulate, execute, and uphold the SMS in accordance with 14 CFR Part 5, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, and relevant FAA guidance.
  • Create and revise SMS policies, procedures, manuals, and documentation.
  • Establish and maintain SMS processes, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk management.
  • Facilitate risk assessments and devise mitigation strategies for identified hazards.
  • Develop and monitor safety performance indicators (SPIs) and other metrics to evaluate SMS effectiveness.
  • Conduct aviation safety audits, inspections, and investigations to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Coordinate safety reporting, analysis, and follow-up on safety incidents and near misses.
  • Prepare and submit SMS-related reports and documentation to regulatory authorities as required.
  • Promote a safety culture throughout the organization via training, awareness programs, and communication strategies.
  • Analyze and present safety data and trends to identify areas for improvement within the SMS.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance safety performance and mitigate risks.
  • Stay updated on industry developments, best practices, and emerging trends in aviation safety.
  • Guide the SMS team and collaborate with other departments to integrate safety practices into all operational aspects.
  • Provide support and guidance to department heads and employees on safety-related matters.
  • Mentor and develop SMS team members to ensure a high level of expertise and engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in aviation safety, aviation maintenance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in aviation maintenance.
  • Experience with SMS programs in an airline or MRO environment.
  • Strong understanding of SMS pillars and program implementation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all organizational levels.
  • Capability to negotiate SMS requirements with internal and external stakeholders.
