Objective:

The Construction Cost Specialist at LPX Group is tasked with developing comprehensive time, cost, and labor estimates for designated projects. This role demands a solid understanding of specialized methodologies, techniques, and principles relevant to construction estimating. The Estimator will also engage with clients to address potential challenges that may hinder contract awards. For contracts that are secured, the Estimator will provide ongoing cost estimation support to the operational teams.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in wastewater management, water treatment, and urban development projects.

This position requires close collaboration with Project Owners, Vendors, Subcontractors, Project Managers, and the Accounting department. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with a keen attention to detail, are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the complete lifecycle of bids from initial invitation to final proposal submission.
  • Thoroughly analyze construction documents, including plans, addendums, and specifications.
  • Define the scope of work and perform detailed quantity takeoffs for site, civil, and underground utility projects.
  • Conduct site visits and participate in pre-bid meetings to gather insights on project scope and site conditions.
  • Solicit and evaluate proposals from material suppliers and subcontractors for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure that estimates are comprehensive, well-organized, and prepared for management review.
  • Develop preliminary construction schedules based on project specifications.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects while maintaining an organized workspace and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with a focus on detail.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within the estimating and project management teams.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in public water, wastewater, or similar infrastructure estimating roles, with project values typically ranging from $100k to $50m.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
  • Field experience as a laborer, operator, or project manager is highly advantageous.
  • Proven ability to manage the entire bid process, including excavation, piping, concrete, pump stations, drainage systems, and underground utilities.
  • Familiarity with construction assemblies and all project phases.
  • Experience in identifying value-engineering alternatives.
  • Capability to recognize constructability issues during the estimating process.
  • Ability to assess site risks and accurately reflect these in cost estimates.
  • Proficient in producing accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings.
  • Skilled in generating detailed final contract estimates.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly in Excel and estimating software.
