Objective

The Project Cost Estimator at LPX Group is tasked with developing comprehensive time, cost, and labor assessments for designated projects. This role requires a deep understanding of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles, and processes. The Estimator is also responsible for engaging with clients to navigate challenges that may hinder contract acquisition. For contracts that are awarded, the Estimator will provide ongoing cost estimation support to operational teams.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in wastewater management, water treatment, and urban improvement initiatives.

This position necessitates close collaboration with Project Owners, Vendors, Subcontractors, Project Managers, and Accounting teams. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with a keen attention to detail, are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete lifecycle of a bid, from initial invitation to the final proposal submission.
  • Examine and interpret construction documents, including plans, addendums, and specifications.
  • Define the scope of work and conduct quantity takeoffs for site, civil, and underground utility projects.
  • Perform site visits and participate in pre-bid meetings to gain insights into project scope and site conditions.
  • Solicit and evaluate proposals from material suppliers and subcontractors to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure that estimates are thorough, well-organized, and prepared for management review.
  • Create preliminary construction schedules based on project specifications and plans.
  • Oversee multiple projects concurrently, maintaining an organized workspace, meeting critical deadlines, and effectively prioritizing tasks.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with a focus on detail.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within the estimating and project management teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public water, wastewater, or similar infrastructure project estimation, with project values typically ranging from $100k to $50m.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
  • Field-based experience in roles such as laborer, operator, or project manager is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage the entire bid process, including excavation, piping, concrete work, pump stations, drainage systems, and underground utilities.
  • Solid understanding of construction assemblies and all project phases.
  • Experience in identifying value-engineering alternatives.
  • Capability to recognize constructability issues during the estimating process.
  • Ability to assess site risks and appropriately reflect these in cost estimates.
  • Proficiency in producing accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to generate detailed final contract estimates.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Excel, Agtek, and a willingness to learn new estimating software.
