The Project Estimator plays a crucial role in developing cost estimates related to various construction sectors, including:

  • Utility installations and asphalt surfacing for site enhancements, commercial structures, residential complexes, and subdivision developments.
  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Urban enhancement initiatives.
  • Heavy civil construction projects, encompassing DOT assignments.
  • Site grading and drainage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the complete bidding process from initial invitation to final proposal submission.
  • Review and analyze construction documentation, including plans, specifications, and addendums.
  • Determine project scope and conduct quantity takeoffs for civil, site, and underground utility work.
  • Perform site assessments and participate in pre-bid meetings to understand project requirements and site conditions.
  • Request and evaluate bids from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure precision and compliance with project specifications.
  • Prepare comprehensive and organized estimates for management review.
  • Create preliminary construction timelines based on provided project details.
  • Handle multiple projects concurrently while maintaining an organized workspace and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills, with a keen attention to detail and excellent communication abilities.
  • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders, including owners, vendors, subcontractors, project managers, and finance teams.
  • Work both independently and as part of the estimating and project management team.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating for either site contractors on private projects or highway contractors on DOT/heavy highway projects, with project values typically ranging from $100k to $50m.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience managing the entire bidding process, including mass excavation, concrete work, highways, bridges, pump stations, drainage systems, and underground utilities.
  • Familiarity with construction assemblies and all project phases.
  • Experience in identifying value-engineering options.
  • Ability to recognize constructability challenges during the estimating phase.
  • Capability to assess site risks and accurately reflect these in cost estimates.
  • Proficiency in generating precise estimates from conceptual and schematic designs.
  • Ability to produce detailed final contract estimates.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency with knowledge of HCSS, Oman, and/or Agtek software.
