The Project Cost Consultant at LPX Group plays a crucial role in the formulation of cost estimates related to various construction sectors, including:
- Wastewater and water treatment facilities
- Commercial construction
- Urban park and cityscape enhancements
- Heavy highway bridge construction, including Department of Transportation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of a bid, from initial invitation to the final submission of the bid proposal.
- Examine and interpret construction documents, including plans, addendums, and specifications.
- Determine the scope of work and execute quantity takeoffs for site, civil, and underground utility projects.
- Conduct site visits and participate in pre-bid meetings to understand project requirements and site conditions.
- Request and evaluate proposals from material suppliers and subcontractors to ensure accuracy and compliance with project scope.
- Ensure that estimates are thorough, well-organized, and prepared for management review.
- Create preliminary construction schedules based on the provided project information.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining an organized workspace, meeting critical deadlines, and prioritizing tasks.
- Exhibit strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills, with a keen attention to detail and excellent communication abilities.
- Collaborate closely with project stakeholders, including owners, vendors, subcontractors, project managers, and accounting teams.
- Work independently as well as part of the estimating and project management team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably with a Self-Performing General Contractor or a WWTP Contractor, estimating projects ranging from $100k to $50m.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience managing the entire bid process, including mass excavation, concrete structures, mechanical piping, equipment, bridges, pump stations, drainage systems, and underground utilities.
- Familiarity with construction assemblies and project execution.
- Experience in identifying value-engineering opportunities.
- Ability to recognize constructability challenges during the estimating phase.
- Capability to assess site risks and accurately reflect these in cost estimates.
- Proficient in producing detailed estimates from conceptual and schematic designs.
- Ability to generate comprehensive final contract documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in computer applications, with a working knowledge of HCSS, Oman, and/or Agtek, or the ability to learn new software quickly.
