Position Title: Patient Attendant

Role Summary:
  • The Patient Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring patient comfort and care by preparing rooms and beds for incoming patients, collecting specimens with empathy, and assisting individuals with their daily living activities. This position involves performing routine treatment tasks, supporting nursing staff during complex procedures, monitoring and documenting vital signs, and promptly communicating any notable changes in patient status to the relevant medical personnel. Additional duties encompass preparing patients for mealtime, providing assistance with feeding when necessary, and fostering a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment. The Attendant is expected to exhibit compassion towards the physical and emotional needs of patients across various age groups.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including effective listening
  • BLS Certification required
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Patient Care
    1. Assists patients with essential daily activities (such as bathing, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, and linen changes) while providing general care (including positioning, pre- and post-operative support, and assistance with bedpan use) with compassion and understanding.
    2. Records and monitors patient metrics such as temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and fluid intake/output as directed, ensuring accurate documentation in the Clinical Information System. Reports any unusual occurrences or changes in patient condition to the appropriate personnel.
    3. Collects patient specimens for laboratory analysis respectfully and efficiently transports them to the laboratory.
    4. Prepares and serves meals to patients, assisting with feeding as needed, while demonstrating respect and understanding for individual patient needs.
  2. Quality Assurance
    1. Ensures a safe and therapeutic healthcare environment by maintaining cleanliness of rooms and equipment, preparing items for sterilization, promptly reporting any equipment malfunctions, and managing linens and supplies effectively.
    2. Conducts routine treatment procedures (such as enemas and the application of hot, cold, and sitz baths) in a professional manner while assisting nursing staff with more complex treatment tasks.
  3. Collaboration and Support
    1. Assists in preparing patient units and rooms to ensure that patients are properly accommodated throughout their stay. Aids patients during admission, transfer, and discharge processes with compassion and understanding.
  4. Additional Responsibilities
    1. Performs other tasks as assigned or requested.
