POSITION OVERVIEW:


The primary role of this position is to guarantee that all vessel machinery, equipment, and systems are operated, maintained, and repaired in a secure and efficient manner.

As an integral member of the Vessel Management Team, the Marine Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with all Company operational protocols and scheduled maintenance programs, while overseeing all Engineering Department personnel in their daily responsibilities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continuously uphold a safe working environment on the vessel, enforcing Company policies and procedures, as well as general maritime industry best practices whenever applicable.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all vessel machinery and systems, including main propulsion, auxiliary power generation, ancillary systems, deck, and cargo handling. Ensure proper functionality of control, monitoring, and alarm systems.
  • Inform the Captain and Port Engineer of any unusual changes in machinery operation status.
  • Execute safe and effective repairs during voyages with limited resources and external support, while operating under tight time constraints and in remote locations.
  • Diagnose machinery issues as necessary and effectively communicate with the Captain, Port Engineer, and designated shore-side support staff and vendors to provide timely and relevant information for the diagnosis and repair of vessel machinery and systems.
  • Manage vessel bunkering operations, ensuring adherence to established fueling protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain fuel/fluid levels in all vessel tanks, and conduct monthly oil sampling for analysis.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels of critical spares and general vessel parts.
  • Mentor Junior Engineering staff in Company policies, vessel operations, equipment repair, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Collaborate with the Port Engineer for the safe and effective management of shipyard personnel and other vendors during planned and emergency maintenance and repair activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid DDE 4,000 HP license or higher.
  • Must hold a valid TWIC card.
  • Must have a valid USCG Merchant Mariner Document or Merchant Mariner Credential.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must agree to join the Inlandboatman's union within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be open to working in a Non-Guaranteed call-out position for engineers.
  • The ideal candidate should reside within a reasonable distance to facilitate call-out work.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required within the last 15 years as a Marine Engineer, with at least three years in a Chief Engineer capacity.
