KBR is seeking a Project Engineering Manager to oversee all stages of planning and execution for small to mid-sized projects at a local client site, while also leading and taking responsibility for a mid-sized engineering and design team.

This position is based at a client site.

Daily onsite attendance is required. Hybrid or remote work options are not available at this time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote safety and ensure safe practices among all team members in every task and assignment.
  • Conduct work in alignment with Client and KBR Core Values.
  • Lead a team of over 35 designers, engineers, project leaders, support staff, and administrators.
  • Be accountable for the overall performance of the team, including safety, operability, quality, budget, and schedule adherence.
  • Establish goals and objectives that align with client expectations and execute the vision for the site design team and minor project program.
  • Oversee the execution of minor project capital and non-capital expenditures exceeding $20 million. Prepare monthly reports detailing team costs and the status of all spending accounts.
  • Manage the production of deliverables for mechanical, process, piping, electrical, and structural designs, as well as project controls, procurement, and document management.
  • Act as the primary contact for the Client to coordinate internal and external engineering resources with Site Engineering and business leaders.
  • Regularly coordinate with KBR home office engineering and project controls disciplines to support both small and large capital projects.
  • Collaborate with site engineering and client Manufacturing Technology personnel to identify alternative solutions or lower capital options, utilizing value improvement practices.
  • Make strategic decisions for the team and provide guidance to department/discipline leads (direct reports). Maintain a succession plan.
  • Ensure compliance with process safety management (PSM), environmental, health & safety (EH&S), mechanical integrity and quality assurance (MIQA), export controls, and trade secrets principles, as well as other core value standards and procedures.
  • Serve as the lead project manager to ensure adherence to necessary engineering and design processes throughout the project life cycle.
  • Engage in client project planning and participate in monthly project reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with Client engineering, subject matter experts (SMEs), experienced contractor resources, and construction management personnel.
  • Champion the concept of no change and ensure that only changes aligned with business and project objectives are approved. Maintain excellent communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide trustworthy leadership to foster an effective and cohesive team by ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities, managing workloads, facilitating cross-functional communication, and resolving personality conflicts among team members.
  • Manage project execution to safely achieve business objectives within the agreed scope, cost, and schedule while protecting the environment and our communities.
  • Be accountable for the development and implementation of Project Quality Plans, including auditing work processes and deliverables for compliance with project quality requirements and expectations.
  • Conduct routine project field audits to promote safe work practices and best-practice designs. Participate in weekly safety audits, including design reviews, PSM, and Tie-In approval audits, and ensure assigned action items are completed.
  • Oversee the execution of the Site Safety Plan and monthly reporting of Safety Energy (leading indicators).
  • Coordinate the recruitment process, including conducting interviews, evaluating candidates, hiring, and onboarding new talent into the team. Provide opportunities for talent development and professional growth for all reports.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with a minimum of ten (10) years of industrial experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple projects/tasks and drive them to completion while ensuring reliable, high-quality production.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Familiarity with the FEL/Gate Review Process.

Preferred Education & Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous experience in Project Management within an industrial setting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, SAP, and/or other project management tools is preferred.

Physical Qualifications:

Work is conducted in a chemical plant environment:

  • Exposure to varying ambient temperature conditions.
  • Extensive walking around construction sites, climbing ladders, scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, navigating uneven surfaces, and working in confined spaces.
  • Some lifting may be required, up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to enter and exit the project site as needed.
  • Must be able to utilize appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for each assigned task.
  • Day-to-day physical requirements include standard office activities such as sitting/standing for extended periods, attending meetings, and repetitive use of keyboard and mouse.
