About the Opportunity

The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring quality educational opportunities for military-connected children. With over 25 years of experience, MCEC has worked tirelessly to address the challenges of frequent moves, family separations, and disrupted social connections that military children face.

We seek a visionary leader to serve as our President and Chief Executive Officer. This individual will provide the strategic direction and leadership necessary to deliver measurable, cost-effective results and inspire our team of staff and volunteers.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the military lifestyle and a passion for MCEC's mission. They will be a collaborative leader with experience in nonprofit management, governance, and philanthropy. The President and CEO will be responsible for developing and implementing the organization's vision, mission, and strategic plan, as well as ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the organization's vision, mission, and strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the Board's goals and objectives.
  2. Financial Management: Oversee the fiscal activities of the organization, including budgeting, reporting, and audit, ensuring financial sustainability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  3. Program Development: Collaborate with the Board and staff to develop and implement programs that address the educational needs of military-connected children, ensuring quality and effectiveness.
  4. Community Engagement: Serve as the organization's chief spokesperson, engaging with key stakeholders, including military leaders, government officials, and the general public, to promote MCEC's mission and programs.
  5. Governance: Work closely with the Board to ensure effective governance, including Board development, committee management, and strategic planning.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a doctorate degree in education, behavioral sciences, or a related field, and a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in senior management positions, preferably in the nonprofit sector. They will possess excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as a deep understanding of the military lifestyle and a passion for MCEC's mission.

Compensation

The salary range will be shared with candidates contacted for interviews or upon request. Total compensation includes 401K matching contributions.

Residency Requirement

Although the organization's headquarters is in Central Texas, residency in Texas and proximity to the MCEC headquarters is not required. Easy access to the Washington, DC area is preferred.
