Job Overview

Position Summary

This role provides engineers with a pathway to leadership within Toyota Industries' New Product Development Division. The primary responsibility will be overseeing a team dedicated to the design and testing of mechanical components, systems, or structures for both existing and innovative material handling equipment. This individual will support and supervise engineering processes, procedures, and personnel throughout various stages of the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance, review, and approve the design, implementation, or testing of mechanical components, systems, or structures for new product development and ongoing production projects related to material handling products and features.

• Manage and participate in the evaluation of technical documentation, including hardware and system specifications, schematics, drawings, 3D CAD models, Bills of Materials (BOMs), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEAs), test plans, and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) reports.

• Review and validate designs using CATIA or similar CAD and Product Data Management (PDM) software as applicable.
  • Develop and monitor detailed schedules for the development of components, systems, and testing requirements.

• Lead cross-functional teams throughout the development and testing phases.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate with other functional leaders to simultaneously engineer and achieve milestone design objectives.
  • Articulate and communicate team goals while monitoring progress through open communication and visual platforms.

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to comprehend requirements and devise necessary solutions.

• Conduct employee evaluations, coaching, and mentoring for 3-6 direct reports, along with implementing improvement plans when necessary.

• Participate in departmental Hoshin and improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to review and guide the design or testing of mechanical or structural systems, including fabricated, cast, or machined components to meet performance, durability, and dimensional specifications.

• Maintain a constant state of alertness and adhere to safety protocols.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical components, structures, or system design.

• Proficiency in 3D CAD (CATIA preferred) and PDM systems is preferred.
  • Experience in project management or leadership is preferred.
  • Experience in the development or testing of material handling equipment is advantageous.
