Job Title: Employment and Educational Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Employment and Educational Specialist to join our team at Community of Hope. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in helping underserved families and individuals in DC achieve their employment and educational goals.

About the Role:

The Employment and Educational Specialist will provide direct services to clients residing in our Short Term Family Housing Programs, helping them become gainfully employed and/or increase their income through linkages to employment and/or educational options. This role requires strong interpersonal, customer service, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to think critically and maintain client confidentiality.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct services to clients, including resume writing, job interviewing, and completing job and school applications.
  • Reviews past employment and education histories of clients and identifies possible barriers to obtaining and retaining employment and/or education.
  • Researches and develops community resources for clients' employment and educational development and provides linkages to clients.
  • Connects eligible families to TANF and assists with applications, monitoring the status of the application, and supporting the client to resolve any challenges.
  • Tracks and monitors school attendance and works with families and schools to address any attendance issues.
  • Meets monthly with case managers to review and coordinate services provided to shared clients.
  • Provides training for staff on employment-related topics as needed.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or two years of college required. In lieu of the education requirement, candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience working in homelessness services programs or the provision of social services.
  • Experience working in workforce development preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local employment resources and the social service system strongly preferred.
  • Ability to think critically, use good judgement, and maintain client confidentiality required.

We prioritize work-life balance and offer remote work opportunities, 8 hour workdays, 11.5 paid company holidays, 1 personal floating holiday, 15 days of paid vacation (increases to 20 after 3 years of service), and 12 days of paid sick leave on an annual basis. We also offer annual performance-based raises, tuition reimbursement, loan repayment for clinicians, licensing reimbursement, and continuing education unit funds for licensed staff.
