POSITION OVERVIEW

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, is seeking a dedicated Premium Auditor to enhance our team. This role is primarily focused on executing final premium audits, both remotely and onsite as necessary, along the Eastern seaboard. The Premium Auditor will play a crucial role in fostering relationships with agents and policyholders, serving as the main point of contact for audit result inquiries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review documentation submitted through the customer portal.
  • Engage proactively with policyholders and agents to collect essential information, including complex payroll forms.
  • Request and analyze additional payroll or tax documents required for final audits.
  • Conduct detailed inquiries to verify classification codes and ascertain final payroll.
  • Identify and address issues and concerns; manage non-complex inquiries with external stakeholders and escalate significant matters to the Supervisor as necessary.
  • Perform onsite inspections as assigned.
  • Provide comprehensive summaries of audit findings using company software, ensuring company-specific justifications for classification codes.
  • Create both standard and intricate worksheets to validate final audited payroll.
  • Detect discrepancies compared to pre-audit classification codes and provide detailed explanations.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders regarding unusual items and escalate to management for discussion.
  • Independently resolve complex discrepancies within the defined authority level.
  • Act as the primary contact for agents and policyholders regarding inquiries about individual audit results.

Conduct research on relevant Bureau websites and call centers to prepare for meetings with policyholders and during onsite visits. Utilize Bureau manuals to confirm classification codes and review payroll inclusions/exclusions. Submit inquiries to State Bureaus as appropriate and develop contacts within bureaus for ongoing research to classify risks more efficiently.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Thoroughly review policy details and collaborate with Underwriting to ensure accurate application of classification codes.
  • Resolve discrepancies and escalate major concerns to Supervisor/Manager for review.
  • Process final audit and revised final audit transactions on policies.
  • Provide detailed summaries of audit development to justify AP/RP.
  • Prepare to address complex questions regarding audit development.
  • Identify and acknowledge dispute submissions, making inquiries and requesting additional information as needed.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to resolve both standard and complex disputes.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding the Premium Audit process and standard Finance workflows.
  • Advise Underwriting, Loss Control, Claims, and other internal departments on Premium Audit-related rules and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other teams as directed to ensure an efficient policy lifecycle.

Become familiar with Company communication guidelines and standard operating procedures. Provide exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders by responding promptly to inquiries and offering general assistance to all business partners.

Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned by leadership or as circumstances dictate. Serve as a change agent in driving ongoing process improvement in compliance and efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Business, Statistics, Finance, or Accounting from an accredited institution is required.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of relevant premium audit experience is essential.

Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office/365 suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to navigate applicable databases, systems, and vendor software programs is required.
