Job Description

The Senior Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving Programs is a key role that drives the school's efforts to engage alumni, parents, and current students in a culture of philanthropy.

This position will lead a unified team responsible for overseeing the ideation and execution of in-person and online programming that engages alumni and parents in creative and relevant ways.

The team will create engagement that leads to inspired, increased and consistent philanthropic support of the school and its programs.

The Senior Director must be an effective and enthusiastic leader who excels at building enduring internal and external relationships, such as partnering with and celebrating a diverse alumni base, while strengthening and supporting processes that align with the values of Juilliard.

The incumbent must demonstrate a nuanced, sophisticated approach to advancement work that recognizes Juilliard's unique position within higher education, and will call upon best practices within the industry, data analytics, and strong intuitive skills to apply to the Juilliard context, leading to increased engagement and philanthropic support.

The incumbent will lead a unified and strategic outreach effort to sustain and expand commitment and engagement among all Juilliard alumni and parents in partnership with school leadership, senior colleagues and other key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the delivery of comprehensive suite of alumni and parent engagement activities including reunions, Alumni Days, regional gatherings, online events and learning opportunities
  • Strategically lead the new team in executing comprehensive alumni and parent volunteer programs for fundraising, student recruitment, and mentoring as well as a comprehensive peer to peer networking platform
  • Design, lead, and execute the development of annual goals and objectives, operating plans, budgets, and staffing structure for the new team
  • Build effective collaborations across the department and other areas of the university such as DEIB, Marketing & Communications, and the Offices of the Deans, Provost and the President
  • Hire, supervise, mentor and evaluate a team of professionals maintaining a keen focus on ideal outcomes of collaboration and continuous improvement in alumni relations and annual giving
  • Oversee the execution of a robust direct marketing program for Juilliard annual giving programs by deploying targeted solicitations across all channels for donor acquisition, renewal and retention
  • Lead Annual Fund efforts to increase unrestricted support from alumni and parents, with particular focus on leadership gifts of $1,000+
  • Direct the implementation of a strategic communications plan in partnership with Marketing & Communications colleagues to activate and engage a diverse population of alumni and parents utilizing a multi-channel approach through digital, print, and in-person efforts
  • Oversee the event production and sponsorship sales for the annual Celebration
  • Serve as the primary conservator of alumni and parent information safeguarding privacy and confidentiality according to institutional policy and current laws

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Ten+ years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility working with alumni, volunteer, and membership groups preferably within higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop staff, while working effectively and collaboratively in a team setting
  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of fundraising and volunteer engagement, including strategies for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving, with demonstrated success in exceeding goals
  • High-level skills in consensus building, diplomacy, leadership, analysis and strategic planning and well-honed balance of ambition and humility
  • Prior management and supervisory experience
  • Ability to work inclusively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
