Position Overview:

As a Lead Survey Technician, you will be responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of survey professionals, ensuring effective execution of various surveying tasks. This role involves managing a crew of 1 to 5 individuals, providing direction, training, and performance evaluations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the operation and upkeep of surveying instruments utilized on-site, while also facilitating training for team members.
  • Create detailed field sketches and maintain accurate field notes, adhering to both company standards and general surveying protocols.
  • Gather all necessary instruments and measuring devices for diverse survey assignments, ensuring precise operation and calibration of tools such as levels, transits, theodolites, and electronic measuring devices.
  • Confirm that all required equipment is prepared and functional for upcoming tasks.
  • Conduct mathematical computations relevant to surveying projects.
  • Interpret and understand construction plans and specifications effectively.
  • Recognize fundamental sources of measurement inaccuracies.
  • Possess knowledge of construction staking principles and stake markings.
  • Comply with company safety regulations and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Foster positive relationships with clients and the public during fieldwork.
  • Be accountable for the completion of assigned duties.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in construction staking and data collection systems is mandatory.
  • Ability to execute basic GPS operations.
  • Proficiency with Robotic Total Stations.
  • Familiarity with standard computer applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, along with effective written and verbal communication abilities.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a leadership role within surveying.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is necessary.
  • Knowledge of surveying technology and fundamental civil engineering concepts is essential.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Five or more years of experience in a leadership capacity within surveying.
  • Possession of a surveying license or LSIT is advantageous.
  • Extensive experience in performing complex surveying calculations.
  • Familiarity with Trimble or similar software is preferred.
  • Experience in commercial construction projects is a plus.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is determined by local regulations and will vary based on experience, education, skill level, and other relevant factors.
