Overview of Role
What is the purpose of this position?

This role is designed to assist end users in optimizing their productivity and efficiency with computer-related tools and processes. The individual will act as a technical analyst, facilitating the integration of technology and automation initiatives.

The IT Support Specialist will engage in a variety of professional tasks within an Information Technology setting. As a technical authority, the specialist will provide troubleshooting, implementation, administration, support, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and network systems. This position will also involve on-site or remote diagnosis and resolution of technical issues using a sophisticated suite of diagnostic tools with elevated access. Additionally, the specialist will lead and coordinate teams focused on processes, procedures, and technical specifications, overseeing the planning, design, and execution of analytical and technical projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with users, team members, and management, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of systems, computer equipment, and end-user software.
  • Analyze operational challenges and investigate alternative solutions.
  • Initiate corrective measures and document status updates.
  • Educate and assist colleagues and users.
  • Manage projects and provide server support.
  • Offer telecommunications and database systems support.
  • Uphold security protocols.
Qualifications
Education:

A bachelor's degree with a minimum of 21 semester hours in fields such as computer science, data processing, information systems, networking, systems analysis, programming, or mathematics; or an associate's degree with at least 16 semester hours in similar disciplines.

Alternative Qualifications:
An associate's degree with 16 semester hours in relevant fields and two years of experience in roles such as application programmer, computer operator, or IT technician; or two years of experience as an Information Technology Student Assistant may substitute for the educational requirement. Alternatively, a high school diploma with four years of experience in similar roles may also be considered.

Responsibilities Breakdown
Duty 1: Technical Expertise (40% of Time)
Provide expert-level problem diagnosis, implementation, administration, support, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and network systems.
  • Deliver on-site or remote troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Research and document new processes and solutions for future problem resolution.
  • Serve as a technical resource for other team members.
  • Administer and support applications and hardware in a client-server environment.
  • Implement and upgrade automated data processing systems.
Duty 2: Leadership and Coordination (35% of Time)
Lead and oversee teams working on processes, procedures, and technical specifications.
  • Plan and design the implementation of hardware, software, and network components.
  • Develop operational procedures for communication systems, hardware, and software.
  • Analyze and establish information technology quality assurance standards.
  • Act as a liaison between technical staff, management, users, and vendors.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports related to the work.
Duty 3: Server and Network Support (15% of Time)
Administer and support remote application and file servers, network operating systems, and local area networks.
  • Perform server installations, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot local area network connectivity issues.
  • Monitor and maintain local server backup systems.
  • Assist in rebuilding failed servers and restoring backed-up files.
Duty 4: Additional Responsibilities (10% of Time)
Perform other assigned duties, including local database administration and enforcing security standards.
  • Manage local database systems and user access.
  • Update patches and perform virus repairs.
  • Pursue relevant technical training to enhance service delivery.
