Position Overview

The Senior College Counseling Director plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth by collaborating with faculty and administration to establish a comprehensive guidance program focused on academic and career counseling, particularly in the realm of college admissions.


Key Responsibilities
  • Uphold and promote the values of Catholic education and the mission of the Diocese.
  • Serve as a role model by embodying the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Adhere to the established Code of Conduct and policies of the Diocese.
  • Maintain confidentiality as outlined in the Diocese Employee Handbook.
  • Foster effective communication with students, parents, and educational professionals.
  • Develop and implement a college guidance program for grades 9-12.
  • Organize college-related events and workshops, including fairs and financial aid sessions.
  • Assess and address the specific academic and career needs of students.
  • Oversee the college entrance examination program and provide guidance on test interpretation.
  • Share vital information and offer direct support regarding college planning and admissions.
  • Manage student records and maintain an up-to-date college counseling database.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping in accordance with school policies.
  • Participate in professional development as required by the Diocese and local administration.
  • Exhibit professionalism in all aspects of conduct and work habits.
  • Create and maintain a database of internships and work experiences for students.
  • Collect and analyze data on college acceptance rates, financial aid, and alumni career paths.
  • Facilitate a weekly support group for parents to discuss college applications and financial aid.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Essential Functions
  • Stay informed about college entrance requirements and guidance best practices.
  • Process transcript requests and maintain student records.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student achievement.
  • Engage in continuous professional growth through memberships in relevant organizations.
  • Assist with scheduling and other student-related tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the educational environment.

QualificationsEducation and Certification
  • A master's degree in a relevant field such as Counseling, Educational Leadership, School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Higher Education is typically required.
Experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in education or school counseling is required.
  • Experience in a college or university setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with the core teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Understanding of human development and adolescent challenges.
  • Proficiency in college admissions counseling and processes.
  • Knowledge of standardized assessment tools and their interpretation.
  • Experience with Naviance and/or SCOIR platforms is advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within the school community.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects.
  • Competence in crisis response.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Proficient in relevant technology.
  • Critical thinking and planning skills.
