Job Title: Board of Directors Opportunity

Job Summary:

We are seeking committed leaders to join our Board of Directors at EmpathyHQ, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing life-changing mental health services to Texans. As a Board Member, you will contribute to the agency's fundamental responsibilities, including setting our mission, vision, and values, providing legal, fundraising, and fiduciary oversight, and engaging in strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend quarterly meetings to discuss and make decisions on agency matters
  • Review and respond to biweekly email updates from the Executive Director
  • Engage in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) education to promote a culture of inclusivity
  • Participate in at least two activities per year to support the agency's development and engagement efforts
  • Consider serving in a chair position or serving on additional committees

Requirements:

  • Nonprofit management experience, including understanding of legal and other responsibilities of a nonprofit corporation
  • Leadership experience, preferably in a senior leadership role in a large or recognized organization
  • Business acumen, including financial literacy and ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Relevant sector experience, including leadership experience in sectors directly relevant to the agency's business or in professional disciplines pertinent to the agency's key capability areas
  • Education, including an undergraduate degree from a respected college or university
  • High ethical standards, including alignment with the agency's five core values: integrity, solution-focused, compassionate, committed, and accountable
  • Individual characteristics, including intelligence, self-assuredness, interpersonal skills, independence, courage, and commitment
  • Availability to commit and have sufficient time available to discharge the duties of Board Membership
  • Compatibility with other Board members and senior management
  • Free of conflicts of interest and prohibited interlocking relationships
  • Commitment to diversity, including bringing unique experiences and points of view to the Board
