Position Overview

The Senior Coding Analyst plays a crucial role in evaluating and interpreting intricate clinical electronic health records produced by healthcare providers and relevant clinical support staff, ensuring adherence to established coding standards and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough analysis of inpatient accounts, applying federal, state, and organizational coding regulations accurately.
  • Enhance personal expertise and stay updated on coding guidelines through continuous education.
  • Utilize advanced coding software and databases to perform duties efficiently.
  • Guarantee timely and precise billing processes and reporting mechanisms.
  • Draft and manage physician queries to clarify documentation for correct code assignment, ensuring proper archiving of responses in electronic health records.
  • Effectively organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and support organizational objectives.
  • Engage in quality assessment activities to improve the accuracy of information captured through the coding process.
  • Apply coding standards consistently across various facilities, recognizing that regulations may vary by state.

Work Environment

This position offers remote work flexibility, with the requirement to operate within the states where the organization is authorized.

Educational Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is mandatory, while an associate's degree or higher in health information management or a related field is preferred.

Licensure and Certification

An active coding credential from AHIMA is required upon hiring, along with successful completion of a pre-employment coding assessment.

Experience Requirements

  • For external candidates, a minimum of 5 years of inpatient coding experience is required, with academic experience being advantageous.
  • Internal candidates should possess at least 5 years of acute hospital inpatient coding experience, with academic experience preferred and subject to leadership discretion.
