Position Overview:

The Controls and Automation Specialist plays a crucial role in the development of innovative products, supports product testing initiatives, and provides assistance during field service launches and troubleshooting. This position is under the supervision of the Director of R&D – Compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the research and development team to create PLC and HMI programs, assist in the design of electrical diagrams, and evaluate schematics provided by the electrical AutoCAD team.
  • Partner with product engineering to facilitate first article testing and ensure program validation.
  • Engage with field services to address automation-related inquiries, provide startup assistance, and oversee the commissioning of automated solutions, including on-site support as necessary.
  • Work alongside the technical writing team to produce comprehensive product documentation and manuals.
  • Coordinate with the sales team to assess customer proposals and provide insights on technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with project management to meet deliverables and timelines.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as required or assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient understanding of standard communication protocols is essential.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Willingness to travel for testing, startup, and service engagements, estimated at 30-50%.
  1. Availability should include:
  • Short notice assignments.
  • Extended travel periods.
  • Adherence to company and client safety protocols.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting capabilities in:
  1. PLC and HMI systems.
  2. Serial and Ethernet networking.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of safe practices when working with voltages exceeding 120VAC.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze electrical schematics.
  • Training responsibilities include:
  1. Production and testing teams on automation product setup.
  2. Clients on the operation of installed automation systems.
  • Assess new products for potential integration into future offerings.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm in a dynamic work environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Commitment to high standards and excellence.
  • Capability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals across all organizational levels.

Education and Experience:

  • 1 to 5 years of relevant experience or a degree from a university or trade school.
  • Experience in designing and maintaining automation control systems is preferred, particularly with Rockwell Automation and Codesys.
  • Knowledge of PID control systems is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 25 pounds.
