Job Summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our hospital construction department, you will be responsible for performing semiskilled maintenance and repair work on structures and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee hospital construction inventory and warehouse operations.
  • Control construction inventory and warehouse locations, ensuring efficient storage and retrieval of materials.
  • Create and manage Excel spreadsheets to track received materials and inventory levels.
  • Maintain warehouse and storage areas to ensure safety and cleanliness, resolving any issues as needed.
  • Operate heavy, powered equipment, such as Hi-Lo and hand jacks, to facilitate maintenance and repairs.
  • Enforce standard safety protocols throughout the hospital and construction areas.
  • Schedule and perform routine and preventative maintenance on powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Oversee the breakdown and restocking of incoming construction inventory.
  • Place stock in large and/or heavy cases on warehouse shelving, ensuring efficient storage.
  • Verify delivery quantities against packing slips to ensure accuracy and document item locations.
  • Deliver requisitioned supplies to hospital construction projects and warehouse areas.
  • Assist with conducting physical inventory and maintaining accurate records.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidate should have a valid Powered Industrial Truck Operator Permit.
  • Knowledge of warehouse inventory protocols and construction inventory supplies.
  • Working knowledge of inventory reconciliation and ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Capable of lifting over 50 pounds.
  • Experience working with and creating Excel spreadsheets.

  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
