Job Overview

The Weston Lab at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute is on the lookout for a dedicated Research Technician to assist with essential laboratory functions. This role involves gathering data for research initiatives focused on understanding the origins of neurodevelopmental disorders associated with early-onset epilepsy, as well as evaluating innovative therapeutic approaches. The technician will engage with rodent models to study human diseases, manage animal care, perform surgical procedures, and monitor neural activity through both electrical and optical methods. Additionally, the technician will be tasked with the operation and upkeep of laboratory equipment utilized in experiments. The ideal candidate should possess a keen attention to detail, maintain thorough records of experimental findings, and demonstrate a strong motivation to engage in biomedical research aimed at enhancing patient care. A flexible mindset and the ability to thrive in a dynamic research setting are essential.

Essential Qualifications


• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others

• Basic laboratory experience, including skills in dilutions and chemical handling

• Ability to work autonomously and manage time efficiently

• Attention to detail is crucial

• Proficiency with computer software applications

• Capability to remain at a lab bench for extended periods

• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on detail

• While extensive experience with rodents is not mandatory, a willingness to learn rodent handling and surgical techniques is required

• Proven ability to interact respectfully in a diverse and multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications


• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or a related discipline

• A passion for advancing human neuroscience through meticulous experimental work

• Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork abilities

• Proven ability to follow detailed instructions

• Previous research experience is advantageous.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience.
