Position Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated full-time Laboratory Research Coordinator for the esteemed Shin Lab, led by Dr. Sora Shin. This pivotal role involves independently facilitating research initiatives and managing all laboratory operations within the Shin Lab. The successful candidate will undertake responsibilities typical of a Lab Manager, including the maintenance of a mouse colony and proficient animal handling, alongside executing fundamental cell and molecular laboratory techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily research activities and ensure the smooth operation of the lab.
- Maintain mouse colonies, ensuring proper handling, genotyping, and monitoring of animal welfare.
- Perform essential laboratory tasks such as ordering supplies, preparing buffers and solutions, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Organize lab manuals, protocols, and research materials to uphold compliance with all regulatory standards.
- Act as a primary resource for all trainees, providing guidance and support in various experimental procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in a biomedical research environment is advantageous, though not mandatory.
- Competence in handling small animals, including tissue harvesting and monitoring welfare.
- Familiarity with molecular cloning, brain sectioning, and immunohistochemistry techniques.
- Strong organizational and communication abilities.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting, managing a complex workload effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in bioscience, neuroscience, biology, or a related discipline, coupled with relevant experience.
- Prior laboratory experience with techniques such as genotyping, DNA cloning, and gene expression analysis using qPCR.
- Experience in tissue culture of mammalian cell lines and fluorescence microscopy is highly regarded.
Compensation
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
