Job Summary

A full-time research assistant is sought for the Commonwealth of Virginia's research team. This role will independently support research projects and oversee all research activities in the lab. The successful candidate will have proven experience in biomedical research, including mouse colony maintenance, animal handling, and general cell and molecular laboratory techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support research projects and oversee all research activities in the lab
  • Maintain mouse colonies and handle animals
  • Perform basic molecular cloning, brain sectioning, cardiac perfusion, and immunohistochemistry
  • Organize and manage laboratory equipment, supplies, and protocols
  • Assist with ordering supplies and maintaining laboratory organization

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a biomedical research laboratory
  • Ability to work with small animals, including handling, restraining, tissue harvesting, genotyping, and monitoring animal welfare
  • Ability to perform basic molecular cloning, brain sectioning, cardiac perfusion, and immunohistochemistry
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in bioscience, neuroscience, biology, or related field with substantial relevant experience
  • Previous laboratory experience with one or more of the following laboratory techniques: genotyping, DNA cloning, immunohistochemistry, and gene expression analysis using qPCR, tissue culture of mammalian cell lines, and/or fluorescence microscopy
