Job Title: Staff Systems Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Systems Engineer to lead our team of engineers in the design, building, and support of Home Depot's technical infrastructure. The successful candidate will have a strong background in computer science and engineering, with experience in leading teams and managing complex technical projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers in the design, building, and support of Home Depot's technical infrastructure.
  • Lead field and corporate rollouts of technology.
  • Lead the stand up of necessary system software, hardware, and equipment to meet changing infrastructure needs.
  • Create and optimize specifications for technology solutions.
  • Produce and manage purchase requests for hardware and software.
  • Lead development of test suites to enable successful rapid deployment of infrastructure as code to production.
  • Keep abreast of innovations and industry trends, and determine how they impact tools, training, and support necessary to keep systems up, running, and secure.
  • Participate in and contribute to learning activities around modern systems engineering core practices.
  • Research and analyze business trends and behavioral data to identify strategic opportunities for improvements and new initiatives.
  • Lead the evaluation, development, and recommendation of specific strategic technology to provide cost-effective solutions that meet THD requirements.
  • Research and design best fit infrastructure, network, database, cloud, AI, and security architectures for products.
  • Proactively create and maintain infrastructure as code and AI models for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in strategic project planning and management across multiple efforts.
  • Develop formal training courses.
  • Collaborate with product and project teams to understand needs and enable them with infrastructure.
  • Support technology architecture design review efforts for project and product teams.
  • Leverage tooling and custom applications to monitor the operational status of applications, infrastructure, networks, databases, and security; optimizes and tunes performance as appropriate.
  • Drive root cause analysis, debugging, support, and post-mortem analysis for security incidents and service interruptions.
  • Maintain, upgrade, and support existing systems and infrastructure to ensure operational stability.
  • Act as a vendor liaison, owning resourcing, issue management, and documentation.
  • Lead the production of in-house documentation around solutions.
  • Provide application support for software running in production.
  • Act as a mentor to more junior Systems Engineers.
  • Drive converting KB articles into AI models. Drive changes to analytic models used to analyze performance.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Science & Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Management, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, Information Systems, Information Security, Information Networking, Operations Research, Operations Research Analysis, Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics.
  • 2 years of experience in the job offered or alternate occupation of Software Developer (all levels), Software Engineer (all levels), Software Development Engineer, System(s) Engineer, Security Engineer, Test Engineer, Quality Engineer, Data Engineer, Engineer, Computer Systems Analyst, Computer Programmer, Programmer Analyst, IT Analyst, Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Member of Technical Staff, Technical Lead, Project Lead, Consultant (all types/levels), Research Assistant, or Intern.
  • 2 years of experience in the following skills: VMware Cloud; Redhat Linux; SUSE Linux; EMC Storage; NETAPP Storage; IBM Tivoli Storage Manager.
