About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Automation Systems Engineer to join our team at Material Handling Systems, Inc. and contribute to the design and delivery of innovative solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement upper-level controls for automated sortation systems, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Senior/Lead Controls Engineers to ensure successful project delivery, meeting client expectations and company standards.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure drawings and software are completed, installed, commissioned, validated, and documented, adhering to industry best practices.
Essential Functions
  • Write and implement PLC code, integrate subsystems, and assist in on-site controls engineering tasks, ensuring efficient system operation.
  • Utilize Human Machine Interface (HMI) software to implement PLC and HMI programs, providing a user-friendly interface for operators.
  • Work with FORTNA employees, customer representatives, and third-party vendors to ensure project success, fostering strong relationships and open communication.
  • Review electrical designs and provide accurate as-built drawings for approval, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Commission complex automated systems, provide site engineering support, and complete system acceptance testing, guaranteeing system reliability and performance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or comparable field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in industrial controls environment, including PLC programming, HMI programming, and input/output device design.
  • Experience with VFDs, industrial communication networks, and low-voltage electrical design.
Skills and Abilities
  • Self-motivated, self-aware, detail-oriented, and results-focused, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Understanding of VFDs, induction motors, programmable logic controllers, and industrial networks, with the ability to troubleshoot and isolate basic controls I/O problems.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with FORTNA team members, project managers, and customers, ensuring seamless project execution.
Work Environment

This role operates in a professional office environment, with occasional site-based work in industrial settings, requiring the ability to lift 40 pounds, climb ladders, and navigate safely over and around warehouse automation equipment.
