PRN Medical Laboratory Specialist

Position Overview:
As a vital member of our healthcare team, the incumbent in this role brings advanced expertise in laboratory science.
Responsibilities include the development of innovative testing methodologies and the evaluation of existing practices to ensure optimal clinical outcomes for the patient populations we serve, while adhering to cost management protocols.
Key responsibilities encompass:- Data analysis and interpretation in relation to clinical practices.
- Designing studies and interpreting data pertinent to departmental research.
Providing consultation to specialized personnel, healthcare providers, and relevant health committees.
- Initiating and conducting approved independent research projects.

A minimum of 8 shifts per month is required for an additional 20% differential.
Compensation:
$48.00 per hour
Additional Information:
Shift differentials are available for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
Qualified ASCP Medical Laboratory Technicians may also be considered.
Qualifications:
Responsibilities of the Medical Laboratory Scientist:
Execute all assigned procedures proficiently, including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Specimen Processing, Blood Bank, and Microbiology as designated. Set up and conduct a variety of technical and complex tests following established protocols.
May involve obtaining blood specimens from patients, performing bedside testing, and sending specimens to reference laboratories. Conduct verification tests on new products and instrument/procedure comparisons, including statistical analysis and special projects.
Interpret, correlate, and report test results. Assist in performance testing and process validations, as well as printer maintenance. Evaluate and analyze shift quality assurance reports and laboratory information system reports.
Perform necessary quality assurance and maintenance tasks. Document all quality control failures and corrective actions taken. Maintain accurate logs, records, and all required documentation. Participate in the review and updating of procedures.
Train and orient new staff members. Ensure the assigned work area is clean and organized. Maintain supply inventory. Assist in the maintenance of accreditation standards. Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and minor repairs on laboratory instruments.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree is required within 30 days of hire. Military training and experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
Current ASCP or ASCP-I certification and applicable licensure are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least one (1) year of experience in a similar role or setting.
Physical Requirements:
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment requiring dexterity. Visual acuity to see and read computer monitors and documents. Capability to remain seated or standing for extended periods while performing tasks. May require lifting and transporting objects and office supplies, as well as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
