Job Overview:
In this position, the incumbent will demonstrate exceptional proficiency in their specialized field. Responsibilities include the development of innovative testing methods and the evaluation of existing practices to ensure optimal clinical outcomes for the patient demographics served, while adhering to cost management protocols. The role encompasses four primary areas of focus:

1. Analyzing and interpreting data pertinent to hospital clinical practices.
2. Designing studies and interpreting data related to departmental research initiatives.
3. Providing consultancy to discipline-specific staff, healthcare providers, and various health committees.
4. Initiating approved independent research endeavors.

Position Details:
  • Benefits Eligibility: No
  • Shift Details: Variable
  • Hours: PRN (As Needed)
    • A minimum of 8 shifts per month is required for an additional 20% differential.
  • Compensation: $48.00 per hour
  • Additional Information: Shift differentials are available for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
  • Experienced ASCP Medical Laboratory Technicians may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct all assigned procedures competently, including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Specimen Processing, Blood Bank, and Microbiology as required. Execute a variety of technical and complex tests in accordance with established protocols.
  • May collect blood specimens from patients and perform bedside testing as necessary. Facilitate the transfer of specimens to reference laboratories. Conduct verification tests on new products and perform statistical analysis and special projects.
  • Interpret, correlate, and report test findings. Assist in performance testing and process validations, including printer maintenance. Evaluate and analyze shift quality assurance reports and laboratory information system reports.
  • Perform quality assurance and maintenance tasks as required. Document quality control measures and any corrective actions taken. Maintain accurate logs, records, and documentation. Participate in the review and updating of procedures.
  • Train and orient new staff members. Ensure the assigned work area is clean and organized. Manage supply inventory and assist in maintaining accreditation standards. Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and minor repairs on laboratory instruments.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required within 30 days of hire. Military training and experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Current ASCP or ASCP-I certification and applicable licensure are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one year of experience in a similar role or setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to effectively communicate with others, both verbally and in writing. Proficient in operating computers and office equipment, requiring dexterity in fingers and hands. Capability to see and read computer monitors and documents. Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods while performing tasks. May involve lifting and transporting objects and office supplies, as well as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
